Help and frequently asked questions
Answers to the most frequent questions, from your first steps to sharing your museum.
Getting started
How do I create my museum?
On the site’s home page, choose “Create my museum”. Sign up with Google, Discord or your e-mail address, then choose your username and, if you wish, your museum’s name.
Can I see a museum before signing up?
Yes: the example museum shows what visitors see in an open museum. Its armies and recipes are made up; its paints come from the real catalogue.
How do I replay the tutorial?
In My museum, choose “Replay the tutorial”. The “?” button at the top of each page also explains that page and restarts the tutorial.
Can I install Necrarchive as an app?
Yes, on your phone and on your computer, when your browser allows it: in My museum, choose “Install the app”. On an iPhone, tap Share, then “Add to Home Screen”.
Units and progress
How do I add a unit?
In the Units tab, choose “Add a unit” (the + button on a phone). First create an army, then pick the unit from the list: its number of models and its points come with it. For a unit missing from the list, choose “Unit not listed? Enter it yourself”.
Where do unit points come from?
From a community database (BSData), checked every day. You can always correct a cost by hand.
Why does my percentage ignore points?
Progress counts models: a large, expensive unit and a small character weigh according to their number of models. Points stay on display to give each army’s total.
How do the stages work?
Assembled, Primed, Painted: each stage includes the ones before it, and the site ticks them for you. “Based” is tracked separately, as some people base before painting. “Battle ready” is the last stage: you set it yourself; it needs Painted and Based and ticks them for you.
What is a goal?
A date to meet: a tournament, a game or an exhibition. On Home or Progress, choose “Set a goal”: the site counts the days and shows the pace to keep, in models per week.
How do I unlock artefacts?
By moving your collection forward: models assembled, painted, battle ready, paints, scheme steps, books read… In My museum, the “Artefact hall” shows every piece and what is left for each. You can show three of them in your public museum.
How do I know what my collection is worth?
Note the “Price paid” on a unit’s page. Progress then shows the “Collection value” and the part still in the box. Choose the currency in Preferences (“Currency”). Only you can see these prices: never on your public museum nor on a shared image.
Supplies and colour schemes
How do I add a paint in three taps?
In the Supplies tab, choose “Add a paint”, then “Add” next to the pot. On a phone, you can also scan its barcode.
How does the shopping list work?
A pot at zero, almost empty or dry goes onto it automatically. You can also add a pot from its card. It opens from Home, even offline in the shop.
A paint is missing from the catalogue. What should I do?
Add it by hand from the Supplies search. If you scan an unknown barcode, you can link it to the right pot: your suggestion is checked before it is used for everyone.
What is a colour scheme for?
For keeping your recipe: the areas, the order of the steps, the paints, the technique, the dilution and the brush. Link it to an army or a unit. The “Add the N missing pots to my shopping list” button puts what you lack onto your list; if you own an equivalent, the site suggests it.
Reading
How do I add a book?
Reading tab, “Add a book” (the + button on a phone): type a few letters of the title, in English or in French, or “Scan the ISBN” on the back of the book. The title, author, year and series come with it.
A book is missing from the catalogue. What can I do?
In the search, “Add a book missing from the catalogue”: the title and author are enough. The book goes on your shelf at once, and the team checks it before adding it to everyone’s catalogue.
How do I shelve a book, rate it or review it?
The tab has four shelves: Wishlist, To read, Reading (with how far you are) and Read (with, if you like, the date and a rating out of 5). Tap a book to open its page and pick its shelf. “Bought” puts a wish on your to-read pile. “My review” holds 280 characters, and “Add to my favourites” puts up to 3 books at the top of the tab.
Who can see my reading?
No one while your museum is private. If it is public, the “Reading” section shows your favourites, the books you are reading, the last ones you read and your wishes, with your ratings and reviews, never the dates nor the ISBN. You can hide it in My museum, “Public museum”.
Public museum and sharing
Who can see my museum?
No one until you open it. In My museum, “Public museum”: open it and choose the visible sections (Armies and units, Schemes, Wishlist, Reading, Paints). Visitors see your username, your museum’s name and description, your figures, your exhibited artefacts and the sections you ticked, never your e-mail address. You can close it again at any time. Public museums are not listed by search engines.
How do I share my museum?
Once your museum is open, in My museum, “Public museum”: “Copy link”, “Share” or “QR code”. You can also share an image: “Share as an image” on Progress, “Share this unit as an image” on a unit.
Can I copy another player’s recipe?
Yes, if their museum shows its schemes: “Copy to my Grimoire” on the scheme’s page, with your account. The copy is yours and keeps the line “From …’s recipe”.
If I change my username, what happens to my link?
Your museum’s address follows your username: the old link stops working. Your old username stays blocked for six months, so that no one else can take it.
A museum shows something wrong. What can I do?
At the foot of its page, “Report”: choose what is wrong and add details if needed. The team reads every report, and the member does not know who reported it. Without an account, “Write to us” prepares an e-mail to contact@necrarchive.com.
Data, offline use and account
How do I get my data back?
In My museum, “Import and export”, “Download (JSON)”: your whole museum and your profile, in a file you can import again. The same file is available in Preferences (“Download all my data (JSON)”). A single section downloads as CSV, for a spreadsheet.
Can I import a file?
Yes: a JSON file exported from Necrarchive, or a CSV table of paints or units (from a spreadsheet or another site) whose columns you match. The file is read on your device. A preview shows what will be added before anything is saved, and “Undo the import” remains available for 24 hours. Up to 5 MB and 5,000 rows.
Does the site work offline?
Yes, for reading: the app’s pages you have already opened on this device (Home, Supplies, Units, Progress, My museum…) stay readable, in the shop for instance. Preferences, the help pages and public museums need a connection. Offline, nothing can be changed: the buttons concerned stay greyed out until the network returns.
Do I need two-factor authentication?
No: it is only used for the site’s administration. For your account, choose a strong password (at least 12 characters, with lower-case and upper-case letters, digits and symbols), or sign in with Google or Discord.
How do I delete my account?
In Preferences, “Delete my account”. Your museum is erased and your public museum disappears at once. Download your data first if you want to keep it. Retention periods are set out in the privacy policy.
What do you do with my data?
Only what is needed to run your museum: no advertising, no resale. Everything is explained in the privacy policy, the Cookies page, the terms of use and the legal notice.
Contact
Found a bug, or have an idea?
Use the “Bug or idea?” button: in the left-hand menu on a computer, under the “?” at the top of each page on a phone, and in My museum. Every message is read. Without an account, write to contact@necrarchive.com.
Is Necrarchive an official site?
No. It is an unofficial fan site, free and without advertising. See Unofficial site.
